Essiac 8 Herb Formula
1 oz.  $16.95

What is Essiac ?

Essiac originates from an old Indian herbal formula. A Canadian nurse Rene Caisse obtained the formula from a patient in 1922. She used it on her aunt who had inoperable stomach cancer, with apparent amazing success.

During her life Rene Caisse treated many thousands of cancer patients and many trials were carried out with the help of curious doctors. Although she won over many skeptical doctors the Canadian authorities disapproved of her work and made life increasingly difficult for her.

Rene Caisse devoted her life to using her Essiac formula
on terminally ill cancer patients and attempting to
improve the formula to maximize its effect.

The final formula Rene Caisse decided upon she called 'Essiac', simply her maiden name spelled in reverse.

Rene Caisse gave her formula to at least 2 trusted friends and the four herbs in the recipe are well known as:

  • Sheep Sorrel
  • Burdock
  • Slippery Elm Bark
  • Turkey Red Rhubarb

As the fame of Essiac was becoming well established, Dr. Brusch  was Rene's confidant and loyal supporter through much of the early storms and controversey surrounding Essiac and the battles with the "authorities," Dr. Brusch later added four more herbs to the original formula.  That brought the 8 Herb formulation to:

  • Sheep Sorrel
  • Burdock
  • Slippery Elm Bark
  • Turkey Red Rhubarb
  • Red Clover
  • Blessed Thistle
  • Kelp
  • Watercress

The 8 herb formula is favored by some while others are enamoured with the original 4 herb formulation.   Whatever your pleasure is, we at Secrets of Eden make both formulas, ( in their original proportions ) available in tincture.   We are persuaded that the tincture modality is vastly superior to brewed tea essiac.  The followin paragraph summarizes why.

The Messy World of Essiac Teas

Many essiac formula herbal preparations are a 'decoction', using boiling water to extract the active ingredients from the herbs. These suffer from several problems.

  • Many important constituents of the essiac formula herbs are not extracted by boiling water as they are insoluble in water.
  • Large amounts of the decoction are required several times a day to receive the required amount, causing problems for patients who suffer from gastric problems.
  • Storage is a problem as the decoction is unpreserved.
  • Essiac formula 'teas' require lengthy preparation methods to boil the active ingredients out of the herbal tea.

The Solution - Essiac Tincture

Superior Extraction Of Active Ingredients:

Secrets of Eden uses an alcoholic tincture approach. This enables a much more complete extraction of the herbs than is possible with boiling water and leads to a much more concentrated product.

Simple To Store:

Secrets of Eden Essiac tincture is preserved indefinitely at normal room temperatures and as the bottle is brown glass or opaque plastic it can be kept in normal light.

The alcohol in the tincture is roughly 25% of the dose. Should this present a moral or health problem a limited amount of boiling water can be added to the tincture dose to remove the alcohol. Otherwise the tincture can be taken diluted with cold water or fruit juice to taste.

The majority of Secrets of Eden customers use Essiac sublinqually ( 5 to 10 drops under the tongue several times per day )
